What is an atom?
The atom is the building block of an element. Each element like gold, oxygen or nitrogen is made up of atoms.
Atoms are too small to see with the naked eye. About five trillion hydrogen atoms, thtat's 5 with 12 zeros or 5 000 000 000 000 hydrogen atoms could fit on the head of a pin.
Atoms are the building blocks of elements.
Each of the elements of the Periodic table is made up of a fundamental particle called an atom. The element gold is made up of gold atoms and the element hydrogen is made up of hydrogen atoms.
An atom is the smallest particle of an element like iron or zinc, that has the properties of that element.
Atoms differ from one another in their atomic weights and properties. For example a helium atom is about four times heavier than a hydrogen atom.
The atomic weights of the atoms of each element can be found in the Periodic table.
