Covalent bonds
What is a covalent bond?
A covalent bond is a chemical bond between two non metallic atoms that involves the sharing of electrons.
Covalent bonds
The atoms within a molecule are joined together by covalent bonds.
Dash diagrams can be used to show the covalent bonds within a molecule.

Each dash is a covalent bond. Methane, CH4, has four covalent bonds.
A covalent bonds involves the sharing of two electrons between atoms.
In methane, CH4 an atom of carbon shares its electrons with four atoms of hydrogen producing four covalent bonds.
