What is a physical change?

Matter exists in three physical states, solid, liquid and gas.

A physical change occurs as a substance changes from one physical state to another.

  • In a physical change nothing new is formed.
  • Physical changes are also easy to reverse.

When an ice cube melts it produces water. The water can be forozen again to produce ice. These changes are examples of physical changes. Nothing new is produced and the changes can be easily reversed.
